Comprising recent and never-before-seen works, Surfaces counterpoints the romantic against the absurd and the evocative against the surreal, forging a thread of potential narrative, formal and symbolic strands and motifs.

Slattery’s paintings are striking for both their technical acumen and elusive subject matter. Occupying a space between fiction and non-fiction, they defy their initial read. The medium of watercolour may be one of the most inflexible, but Slattery’s Surfaces proves malleable and enigmatic in equal measure.
